DESCRIPTION: APW - Waltham, Grade 16-A, World War II era military "Master Navigation Watch," 22J, 16S, chrome-plated base metal OF original case with contract markings to rear, black metal GCT (Greenwich Civil Time) 24 hour dial, SW-hack-set with sweep-seconds, fully capped lever escapement, mono-metallic balance with "Conel" hairspring, striped pattern nickel damascene, s#31788128. Waltham's AN 5740 "Master Navigation Watch" had a total production of only 5,000 made making it significantly less common than its similar 22 jewel military counterparts from Hamilton (greater than 140,000 made) and Elgin (20,000 made). An excellent example of this uncommon military watch which is quite challenging to find in upper level cosmetic condition such as this.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running though initially with a very sluggish and reluctant start, good hacking function, overhaul recommended, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, few micro-fine scratches; dial with small scrape through paint right of "G.C.T." signature, excellent otherwise with few small contact marks and mild bits of oxide; nearly mint hands; case shows hardly any wear, some micro-fine scratches to rear, scattered small nicks to band, pinpoint ding toward upper-left of rear, superb contract marking detail, original circular brushed rear finish is fully intact; tight bow, crown shows light wear; plastic crystal with some fine scratches.
ESTIMATE: $450 - $650
